Our story

It all started when…

Cancer became a familiar word in my home.  At one point, my Dad, Mom, Father-in-law, and Mother-in-Law were all battling cancer.  In 2009 my Father-in Law passed away from a rare sarcoma, and in 2012 my Dad passed away from colon cancer.  Their names were Ken DeCamp Sr. and Barnel Bragg.

My Dad spent quite a bit of time at Island Hospital, in fact at one point he held the record of days spent in the ICU there. I would walk the hallways with him often discussing the artwork on the walls.  He would say, "Karla, I hope someday to see a piece from you on this wall."  After he passed away I donated a few photographs to the hospital, but I knew in my heart that I had to do more.  In 2014 I started Your Story Photography and in 2015 the Anacortes Cancer Walk was created.

In 2018 I knew that there was something bigger that could be done.  Your Story Foundation became a non-profit 501(c)(3)corporation in 2018.

My Dad was a somewhat shy and very humble man. He would be quite embarrassed that I even put his photo on my website. He would be really proud and honored though that so much good has been done since his passing, and I just know he’d be love the fact that we are helping those in our community.

I can’t thank you all enough for believing in this vision. Together we really are doing some amazing things.
